Margaret "Jerri" Jarrell Turnbull

Margaret "Jerri" Jarrell Turnbull died on Tuesday, January 15 surrounded by her loved ones after a short illness at the age of 87.

Jerri Turnbull was born June 25, 1931 in Canandaigua, New York. She was the daughter of Doris & Milton Jarrell of Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from Towson State Teacher's College in 1953 and taught for the Baltimore Public School System until her marriage to Robert Bruce Turnbull, her husband of 61 years. As the wife of an Army Officer, she followed her husband until his medical retirement at West Point, New York in 1969. They welcomed hundreds of cadets and their loved ones into their home and made them family. During this time, they raised African Violets, for which they won multiple national awards, and later became national competition judges. They remained at West Point until 1994, when they retired to Beaufort, South Carolina. They built Sunshine Cottage on Lady's Island, where they spent their days golfing and tending to her gardens. In 2007, they moved to Franke at Seaside retirement community in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where they remained until her death. At Franke she took up painting and croquet.

She is survived by her husband Robert Bruce Turnbull Sr. She is also survived by her three children: Susan Generazio (Hoa), Barbara Rysdyke (Donald), and Robert B. Turnbull Jr. (Michele); her 6 grandchildren: Christopher Generazio (Jaclyn), Andrew Generazio (Darcey), Alaina Condon (Stephen), Victoria Generazio, Robert B. Turnbull III, and Claire Turnbull; and her great-grandchildren: Annalise Street, Brennan Generazio, and Graham Generazio.

A Memorial Service will be held at Rodenberg Chapel at the Franke at Seaside Campus on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm. A private family burial will take place at a later date at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
