Margaret Ballantyne Smith Freeman, 95, of Mount Pleasant, SC peacefully entered into eternal rest on the 18th of July 2020. She was the second of four daughters born to Alan Ballantyne Smith and Jennie Venning Pinckney Smith.
"Margie" was in the first graduating class of General William Moultrie High School and attended the College of Charleston. In 1944 she married her childhood sweetheart Harry Wyman Freeman at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of Mount Pleasant.
She is survived by her son Harry Wyman Freeman Jr. (Susan) of Birmingham, AL, her daughter Margaret Freeman Carswell (Richard) of Mount Pleasant, SC and her three grandchildren Wyman Dow Freeman, Lauren Amileta Mikell and Matthew Steven Mikell.
She was a loving grandmother and a gracious southern lady who loved cross stitching and gardening.
Truly she was a steel magnolia.
A graveside service will be held in Christ Church Cemetery on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 10:00am. Immediate family will serve as pall bearers.
The family gives thanks to her faithful caretakers Lynn Byrnes and Goldie Mitchell as well as the caring staff at Sandpiper Rehab and Nursing.
