Margaret Stevens Del Bene, 84, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024 in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island at 10:30 am. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 28, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
Marge was born January 26, 1940 in Bronx, New York, daughter of the late James Stevens and the late Archangela Schilero Stevens. She was a loving sister, an amazing mother & G-ma, a great neighbor, tennis and baseball lover (her beloved Braves), and a dynamo of a woman.
Throughout her life, Marge was a college graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel in White Plains NY, a high school English teacher in Virginia and an active parishioner of Christ Our King Parish. Margaret’s Catholic faith was at the center of her life. It guided her desire to help others in need. A decades long member of Christ Our King church, she was a leader of the Eucharistic Ministry and served as a lector. For many years she was a dedicated volunteer at East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO). In 2010 she was presented the Stone Soup Award, given to an individual who has made a significant impact toward the greater good of the community. However, nothing was greater than the love and bond she shared with her husband of 63 years, Victor E. Del Bene, MD.
Marge loved summer! Beach trips to Isle of Palms and Fripp Island, featured hours of beach time, tennis and great seafood (she and daughter Anne were master blue crabbers!)
She is survived by her husband, sister, Helen Stevens Kelly (Timothy) of Long Valley NJ, sister-in-law Rose Marie King of Tuckahoe NY, two children V. David Del Bene of Arlington VA, Anne Del Bene Hardee and two grandchildren Justin Scott Hardee and Lillian Margaret Hardee of Pawleys Island along with many nieces and nephews.
A very special thank you to her amazing neighbors, exceptional caregivers and the outstanding team at Lutheran Hospice.
In loving memory, donations may be made to East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO), 1145 Six Mile Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29466.
