Margaret Anne Tucker Byrd, 86, widow of William R. Byrd, passed away on December 9, 2012 at Savannah Grace Assisted Living Facility. Her funeral service will be held at the graveside Saturday, December15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, SC.
Margaret was born February 21, 1926 in Gastonia, NC the daughter of the late Anne Clifford Kuykendal and Walter T. Tucker. After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from Winthrop University, Class of 1947, she married Bill Byrd and devoted her life to being the wife of a career military man and the mother of three children. A life-long Baptist, she always made it one of her top priorities to become actively involved in a church in every place she lived. She taught Sunday School for most of her adult life and was actively involved in the Woman's Missionary Union. After moving to Mount Pleasant, SC several years ago, she was a frequent visitor to First (Scots) Presbyterian Church.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Anne B. McKellar. She is survived by her sons: William R. Byrd, Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN and Robert C. Byrd (Catherine) of Mount Pleasant, SC; her grandchildren: Heidi Byrd of Fort Wayne, IN, Erica Hill and Brett Hart of Greenwood, SC and William Byrd and Andrew Byrd of Mount Pleasant, SC and several great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express its thanks and gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Savannah Grace and also Hospice of Charleston.
