Margaret Mims Branan, 69, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 17, 2016. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel. Interment will be private.
Margaret was born May 13, 1947 in Columbia, South Carolina, daughter of the late Harry William Mims, M.D. and Margaret Cain Mims. She was a graduate of Ashley Hall and the College of Charleston. Margaret studied biology and genetics and retired as a Cytotechnologist from National Health Laboratories. She was an avid golfer and loved the game into her later years. Margaret loved Charleston having moved here from Columbia as a little girl in the mid 1950's. She had a soft spot for small dogs, especially dachshunds, who were always considered part of the family. Margaret was loved dearly by her family and friends and she will live on in our memories and hearts.
Margaret is survived by her son, C.B. "Bart" Branan, IV (Marion) of Charleston; daughter, Margaret Branan Mims (Blakely) of Charleston, SC, grandsons, Charles Trott Branan and Harold Carter Branan; and her sister, Harriet Mims Smith of Charleston, SC; nieces and nephews, William, Harry, Katie, Harriet, Robert, Sarah, Emily and Ava.
She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, William Malloy Smith, Sr.
