Marcia Paulling

Marcia James Paulling, 91, of Yonges Island, South Carolina, widow of Dr. Robert Murray Paulling, Jr., entered into eternal rest Monday, July 23, 2018. Her funeral service will be held at the graveside on Saturday, July 28, 2018 in Christ-St. Paul's Parish Churchyard, 5034 Chapel Road at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Friday in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Marcia was born May 28, 1927 in Greenville, South Carolina, daughter of Frederick Collins and Gaynell James Collins. She was a retired Registered Nurse from Roper Hospital. She was a member of the SC Quilters Guild and a member of the Medical University of South Carolina Alumni Association. Unconditional love is the word that best describes Marcia (Mimi to all who knew her well). Though she loved being a nurse (President of her class) and devoted wife, she received her greatest joy from her family, her boys, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.

The Atlanta Braves and her country (in that order), her daily crossword puzzle and her beautiful flowers displayed all about, were her constant due diligence. She possessed a devoted adoration and deep appreciation for the outdoors and nature and took great delight in the abundant wildlife that called her beautiful farm their home. She would remark daily about the beautiful birds she fed conscientiously, the interesting activity in the pond, the turkeys and their little babies following close behind, and the multitude of deer and their fawns that she kept a close watchful eye upon. It was a wonderful sight to see her glee when one of her family members would bring her fresh shrimp or a nice bass, from the water to the skillet she would say.

She definitely was not too fond of the squirrels or the snakes though! To her family's amazement, Marcia was a multiple award-winning quilter creatively sewing each stitch by her loving hands for everyone in the family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She thoughtfully and lovingly picked just the right material, color and pattern for the individual. She made over 60 quilts and they are her family's most prized possessions. Known to be a true Southern Lady with the most hospitable heart of a servant, she always put others first with pure grace and perfect poise. She was unquestionably a class act always having her hair styled on a Friday only to be in the dove field or the duck blind on a Saturday managing to outshoot most of her hunting comrades. She loved to laugh and tease and was happiest when surrounded at the dinner table with family and friends. The world was a better place with her in it and now let Heaven rejoice that she is now in the arms of Christ, her beloved Bob and the rest of her loved ones.

She is survived by four sons: Robert Murray Paulling, III of Greenville, SC, Dudley Randolph Paulling (Emily) of Yonges Island, SC, Richard Cuthbert Paulling (Joanie) of Folly Beach, SC, and Ronald Porcher Paulling of Yonges Island, SC; six grandchildren: Joseph Paulling, Marcia P. Buchanan (Josh), Brockman Paulling (Christine), Caroline P. Lussier (Noah), Audrey Paulling, and Claire Paulling; and two great-grandchildren: Harper Buchanan and Eloise Buchanan.
