Marcelle Dallas Carter, Jr. (Pete)

Pete Carter, husband of Betty V. Carter and son of Marcelle Dallas Carter and Lily Barbara Purcel Carter, was born April 17, 1925 in Russellville, Alabama. He was a freshman at Alabama Polytechnic when he was enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in Burma and India, securing the rank of First Sergeant and earning several battle stars. Following his service, he enrolled at Auburn University where he was a member of the KA Society. After earning his bachelor of science degree from Auburn University he moved to Denver, Colorado and earned a MBA and a Master of Science Degree in Airport Design from the University of Denver. Pete relocated to Europe where he assisted in the repurposing of military airports to commercial aviation in Stuttgart, Munich and Bremen, Germany and the Netherlands. He returned to the States and married fellow Alabamian Betty Carter settling in Charleston, SC after brief stays in Atlanta and Charlotte. Pete retired from Lockheed Aircraft and Missile Company in 1992 after 37 years of employment.

Pete served 8 years on the Charleston Aviation Authority. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Lions Club, German Friendly Society, and Arion Society and is a Past President of the Charleston Country Club. He served as a Deacon at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty V. Carter and his brother Purcell Carter of Durham, NC. He is survived by his daughter Mary Dallas Moore (Cliff) and son Gaines Parkerson Carter (Christine), grandchildren William C. Moore, IV (Sarah), Parkerson C. Moore (Jessica), John C. Moore (Molly), and Kelly Caroline Carter (Connor Markham), and great grandchildren, Virginia Moore, Lily Moore, Charlotte Moore, Carter Moore, Lucas Moore, Mary Grace Moore, Anna Moore, and John Moore.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden, Monday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. Family will visit with friends following the Service. A private interment will be at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church.
