Malcolm Thomas Cowart

April 20, 1925 — April 14, 2014

Malcolm (Mac) Thomas Cowart, 88, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Monday, April 14, 2014 at Hospice of Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, SC. His Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 11:00 am with Military Honors in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Mac was born April 20, 1925 in Fort McCoy, FL, the son of the late Clarence John Cowart and Mamie Kimball Cowart. He was married to Myrtis Swails Cowart and Sally Causey Cowart, both of whom preceded him in death. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Mac enjoyed fishing, but his greatest hobby was gardening and growing anything in his yard. He loved being outdoors, planting, and landscaping his yard and garden always made him happy. Mac was a very religious man.

He is survived by his daughter, Johnnie Lee Cowart Turner and her husband, Dr. William M. Turner of Anderson, SC; son, Robert Donald Cowart and his wife, Kathryn Santos Cowart, of Mount Pleasant, SC; daughter, Gayle Cowart Collins and her husband, William Roy Collins of Branford, FL; and his daughter, Patricia Cowart McManus and her husband, Terence M. McManus, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, SC; step-son, Robert A. Causey and his wife, Mary Magwood Causey of Awendaw, SC; step-daughter, Bobbie Jean Causey Kelley of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nine grandchildren, William Turner, Jr., Bonnie Turner-Adomatis, Beth Cowart Maier, Robbie Cowart, Clint Thomas Barrineau, Teresa Collins Ayres, Deborah Collins Strickland, Heather McManus and Trey McManus; five step-grandchildren, Al Causey, DeeDee Causey Yates, Richie Causey (Deceased), Melanie Burry and Jonna Conner; seven, great- grandchildren and fifteen step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Center of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd, Mt. Pleasant SC 29464. Flowers will also be accepted.
