Madge P. Beatty, The Elms, North Charleston, peacefully departed this mortal life on Christmas Eve. The eighth of nine children, she was born in Philipsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1920 after her mother, Melinda "Linnie" Craft Parker, cooked and served Thanksgiving dinner to her father, Herschel George Parker, and her brothers and sisters. Her family relocated to Grove City, PA, when she was a young girl. She lived in that small Western Pennsylvania community enjoying the quiet country life until she moved to North Charleston in 2001 to be closer to her sons Timothy Cookson (Karen) of Mount Pleasant and Robert Cookson of Sullivans Island.
In 1941 she married Robert J. Cookson who died in 1965. She married Ralph L. Beatty in 1967 who died in 1981.
In addition, to her two sons in SC, she is survived by a stepson, David Beatty (Linda), in Grove City, 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Beatty deeply loved the many dogs that were companions throughout her life. She loved and appreciated classical music and was known for her sense of humor and biting wit. She was an accomplished cook who specialized in and loved desserts. One granddaughter, Emily Cookson of Charleston, became a pastry chef because of her grandmother's influence.
Mrs. Beatty will be interred at Mepkin Abbey following a private family graveside service.
Her family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Life Care Center of Charleston for the loving care and many kindnesses given to Mrs. Beatty over the last three years of her long life.
