Madelyn Rhea Sechrest

Madelyn Rhea Sechrest, 74, of Wadmalaw Island, SC and previously of Acworth, GA and Orlando, FL entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on April 11, 2022 as the result of a home accident that led to a brain injury. Madelyn (Midge) was a woman who loved the Lord, and was ever quick to show her love to her family and to those who came into contact with her. She had a way of making all those around her feel special and most of all loved.

Midge was born in Bogalusa, LA to Norma Lee Denson Schaffer and Halbon R. Sharp, and grew up in various towns in Louisiana and Alabama before finally settling in Florida. While attending Lyman High School in Castleberry, Florida she met her husband of 57 years Walter Phillip (Phil) Sechrest. Together they raised two children a daughter Tammy and a son Jeffrey, and of course was involved in her church Redeemer Lutheran Church of Winter Park, FL.  After living in the Orlando area for more than thirty years Phil and Midge moved to Acworth, Georgia where Midge soon went to work for The March of Dimes as well as heavily involving herself as a member of First United Lutheran Church in Kennesaw, GA. Soon after their first grandchild was born in Charleston, SC they made the move to South Carolina. Midge relished her new found title of Mimi. Two more grandchildren were born, and she found great pleasure in picking them up from school so she could hear all about their day and in attending their many sporting events. Midge was even fortunate enough to have been able to teach them in Sunday school classes at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Charleston where she continued to impart her love of the Lord. Midge loved to sing in the church choir, lead vacation Bible school, work on altar guild, and have fun with her Skip Tapp Circle sisters.

Madelyn is survived by her husband, Walter Phillip Sechrest; and two children, Tammie Sechrest Nispuruk and Jeffrey Sechrest (Jacqui). She is also survived by three beloved grandchildren, Cole, Zane, and Vivian Sechrest; by her brother, Halbon Terry Sharp (Sandra), of Covington LA; and her sister, Norma Jean Lagle Dollar (Butch) of Whitesville, GA.  Midge is at peace, and enjoying a heavenly reunion with her mother, father, and brother Donald Lagle.
