Mackie Delano Shilling, 75, died of a stroke on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at his home in Mount Pleasant, SC. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Mackie's life on Saturday, December 1, 2012, 10 AM, at the Unitarian Church of Charleston. He was born November 1, 1936, in Cleveland, OH, and was a 1954 graduate of Elyria (OH) High School, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended The Kiski School (PA) and graduated with a BS from the University of Michigan. He was employed at the University for many years as an athletic trainer, including when the Michigan football
team won the 1964 National Championship and the 1965 Rose Bowl. At Michigan he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served in the US Army Reserves as a medic with a paratrooper unit. Mackie also worked as a training manager for Magnavox and as a sales representative for Montsanto
Company, Spode China, Royal Copenhagen, and Krementz Jewelry. He moved to Charleston in 1985 to help set up Grandy's Restaurants in the Charleston area and retired as an owner/operator of the restaurants. Mackie is survived by his wife, Lilless McPherson Shilling, and daughter, Paz McPherson Shilling, both of Mount Pleasant, SC; sisters, Sue Shilling Polansky (Alan) of Wroclaw, Poland; Kay Shilling Brubaker of Tampa, FL; Joan Shilling-Lipinski (Gary) of Russell, PA; and brother, Terry S. "Pete" Shilling of Elyria, OH. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Greer Shilling Polansky of Mount Pleasant, SC; Mary Kay Osborn of Napa, CA; Carol Plummer of Rio Rancho, NM; Mark Brubaker of Tampa, FL; Linda Brubaker of Leander, TX; T. J.
Brubaker of Tampa, FL; Rebecca Shilling of Indianapolis, IN; Halle Shilling of Solana Beach, CA; and Alison Shilling of New York, NY. He also leaves an extended family and many friends. Mackie was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Shilling in 1969; father, Raymond L. Shilling in 1994; and mother, Alice
