Machinist Mate Master Chief M. Bruce Rambo, USN (Ret.) 77, of Charleston, SC, widower of Jane Hood Rambo, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, 2013 in the J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL at 2 pm. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 5 until 7 pm.
Bruce was born on October 20, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to Maurice Bentley Rambo and Helen Robinson Rambo. He attended North East High School in Philadelphia before joining the Navy. He spent 10 years in the Navy on surface crafts then entered the submarine service and attended Nuclear Power School in 1961. He commissioned the USS Pollack SSN 603 and commissioned the USS George Washington Carver SSBN 656. He served aboard the USS Scorpion SSN 589, the USS George Washington SSBN 598. He spent time on shore duty at the FBMSTC in Charleston, SC. He finished his tour of duty aboard the USS Tecumseh SSBN 628. Bruce was as Scout Master of Troop 39 in Charleston and was a marine repair salesman.
He is survived by his son, Maurice B. Rambo, Jr. and wife Julie; two daughters, Sharon Rambo-Berger and Laurie Ann Rambo both of Charleston; four grandchildren, Amber Nicole Rambo of Denver, CO, Sean Charles McPherson, Mason Bentley Rambo, and Shannon Jane Berger all of Charleston; a great-grandson, Daniel Maurice Berger of Charleston; two brothers, Mervin B. Rambo and Martin B. Rambo; and two sisters, Marion R. Yeager and Marjorie R. Connell . He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred R. Lenoir.
