Carol Newitt

Lynne Carol Newitt, after a short battle with cancer, passed Saturday September 3 at MUSC Hospital, Charleston, and is now with her Lord in Heaven.  She will be sorely missed by her husband of sixty two years, Andrew Newitt, and her children Scott, Mindi and Stephen, their spouses, Trisha and Rob, her grandchildren Drew, Sydney, Patsy and Peter, as well as many other family members and friends.

Carol, as she prefers, was born in Media, PA on September 26, 1939 to Miriam and Henry Bell, both deceased. Her sister, Kim, is also deceased.  Her brother, Gene, lives with his wife Kathy in Coatesville, PA, near their two sons, Keith and Patrick and their families.  She was raised in Philadelphia near her grandparents and aunt and uncle and in 1949 moved with her family to Puerta La Cruz, Venezuela. Carol graduated high school from Stuart Hall in VA, got her BA degree from Trinity University in San Antonio and her Masters at Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, LA.

Carol moved to several states with her husband.  She taught in some states for a total of 28 years, leaving a legacy of “making a difference” in the lives of her students. In some states she was on homeowner boards, was President of Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO), an avid bridge player, excellent swimmer, enjoyed bowling, golf and tennis with friends. After retiring in 2000 she attended services at The Gathering church in Sandestin. Her gentle smile and friendliness made her liked by all.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, after which a service will be held with eulogy by Billy Gray of Destin, FL and a reception at Scott and Trisha’s house.  Ashes will be inurned September 12, at 11 am at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens where some family members will say a few words.  Any donations send to MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, https://hollingscancercenter.musc.edu/, or your charity.
