Lydia Hay Pedersen passed peacefully in the early hours of December 30, 2022.
She was born September 28, 1929 to Lydia Clement Hay and Daniel Ellis Hay in Charleston. She graduated from St. Johns High School in 1946 and attended Winthrop College for 2 years, then Rice Business College from 1948-49.
Lydia was a secretary at the C&S Bank from 1949-1952 where she met Thomas Eugene Pedersen and was married on June 9, 1951 at the Johns Island Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church on Rutledge Ave. from 1951 to 1974 when they moved back to her beloved family property on Johns Island near her mother and brother. She rejoined the Johns
Island Presbyterian Church and became a very active member, even becoming the first Women Elder.
She was predeceased by her husband Pete in 2015, her sisters Motte Legare Hay, Mary H. Jenkins and Ann H. Thomas; and brothers, Daniel Ellis Hay, Jr., William C. Hay and Eugene Gordon Hay.
She is the last of her generation in the family.
Lydia is survived by her two daughters, Lydia Jean Pedersen of Johns Island, SC, and Sarah Hay Causey and her husband Nick of Hollywood, SC; two grandchildren, Benjamin Thomas Peters and his wife Allison Hamlet, Sarah Legare Peters McCracken and her husband Brandon along with several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 Johns Island Presbyterian Church, 2550 Bohicket Road at 11:00 am. Internment Churchyard. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
