Lydia Barnes Johnson died at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro, Georgia on June 24, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. She was 55. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, Sunday, June 27, 2010 at three o'clock. The family will receive friends at our chapel on Sunday from one o'clock until the time of the service.
Lydia, daughter to E. W. "Buddy" and Reba Wood Barnes, was born and raised in Statesboro, Georgia. In 1974 Lydia earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Georgia Southern College in Statesboro and completed her Masters degree in Education from University of Georgia in 1975. Not long thereafter Lydia moved briefly to Orlando, Florida before permanently settling in the Charleston, South Carolina area. For the past three decades Lydia has bought, sold and developed real estate in coastal South Carolina. In January of 2005 Lydia was appointed to the Charleston County, SC Board of Zoning Appeals. Lydia was a member of Charleston Bible Church in Charleston, SC. During her leisure time Lydia enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She has visited Europe, Africa and the western United States. Lydia was very athletic. She frequently competed in marathons and triathlons.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, Lydia Lee "Dia" Johnson, of Charleston, SC; her step-daughter Allison Johnson Mackey and Allison's husband, Jason Mackey and their son, Jackson Mackey, all of Charleston, SC; her mother, Reba Wood Barnes of Statesboro, Georgia, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary W. and Armenda S. Barnes of Statesboro, GA and Emmett Lee and Amy Barnes of Atlanta Georgia, a sister, Alicia BeaDot Barnes Burnsed of Statesboro, GA and several nieces & nephews.
