Luther Hillary Smyre

Luther Hillary Smyre, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Dorothy Adams Smyre died Tuesday, April 2, 2013. The relatives and friends of Luther Smyre are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:30 pm. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive at 3:30 pm. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm in the Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Luther was born on February 27, 1917 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Herbert H. Smyre and the late Mathilde Gerken Smyre. He graduated from Charleston High School and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Purchasing Agent. Luther was a former member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his step-daughter, Barbara McMahon of Warner Robbins, GA; step-grandchildren, Dorothy Rumsey of Kathleen, GA, and Irving McMahon of Churchville, VA; step great-grandchildren, Justin Rumsey, Aaron Rumsey, Shawn McMahon, and Mitchell McMahon. He was preceded in death by his wife and brothers, Carl Smyre, Harold Smyre and Randolph Smyre.
