Lucy Stupenos Spell, 90, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 20, 2026. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity at 1:00 pm, and the family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 pm with the Trisagion Service at 12:45 pm. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Lucy was born April 28, 1935 in Kyrenia, Cyprus of Greece, daughter of the late Cyrus Stupenos and Maria Merkezas Stupenos. She grew up in Greenville, SC, and graduated from Greenville High in 1953. After getting married and raising three children, Lucy attended The College of Charleston and received her B.A. in English. Lucy had many interests including playing tennis, was a master bridge player, painting and traveling the world with her husband Harry. She was also an active member of her Church, singing in the choir for decades and serving on the Archives committee. In addition, Lucy served as President of the Charleston Area League of Women Voters in the 1980s and was a longtime member of the Riverland Terrace Garden Club.
She is survived by daughter, Georgia Spell Kliossis of Charleston, SC; son, Harry George Spell, Jr. (Dena) of Atlanta, GA, son in law, Nick Demos of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Lukia Kliossis O'Brien (Tucker), Nicholas Kliossis (Martha), Johnny Demos, Elana Spell, Eleni Demos and Alexis Spell; and great grandchildren, Georgia Kay Kliossis and Harry Carlisle Kliossis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry George Speliopoulos Spell, daughter, Maria Spell Demos and sisters, Kula Alfieris and Debbie Tzouvelekas.
The family would like to thank Lucy's wonderful caregivers: Diane, Jackie, Paulette, Amy, Destiny, as well as Roper Hospice for the care they provided.
Memorial donations can be made in Lucy's memory to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
