Lucy Paul Jones
June 30, 1924 — March 24, 2017
Lucy Paul Jones, 92, widow of Cadwallader "Quaddy" Jones, of Sullivan's Island, went to her eternal rest on Friday, March 24, 2017. Lucy was born June 30, 1924 in Charleston, the daughter of J. Robertson Paul and Kathrine Huiet Paul.
Lucy is survived by her daughters: Helen Jones of Lake Lure, NC, Grange Walters (David), and Robin Cooper (Richard), both of Charleston; five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Quaddy, and grandson, Bixby Cooper.
Lucy will be remembered for her zest for life, her hospitality, her love of the beach and the ocean. Whether she was swimming, paddling, surfing, windsurfing, or sailing, Lucy was welcoming any and everyone to join in. She taught people to play to the glory of God! Lucy and Quaddy spent many summers raising mallard ducks on the beach. They ran in almost every Cooper River Bridge Run, and are in the Bridge Run Hall of Fame. They also enjoyed tennis and boating. Lucy loved music and dancing with her Quaddy. Lucy and Quaddy spent a lifetime hosting Citadel cadets in their home for Sunday dinners after church, gaining two sons-in-law in the process. Their marriage was an example of life long joyful commitment to one another.
Lucy put her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and she was a long time active member of Church Creek Presbyterian Church.
The family wants to express sincere thanks to Pam Chambers and her wonderful staff at CMK Homecare of Charleston for their professional, compassionate care of Lucy for the last six years.
Visitation will be at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, and the funeral service will be at the Summerall Chapel, The Citadel at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Interment will be at Live Oak Memorial Gardens on Hwy. 61, followed by a reception at Church Creek Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be sent to the Building Fund of Church Creek Presbyterian Church or The Charleston Christian School, 2234 Plainview Road, Charleston, SC 29414.
