Lucy Robson Glenn, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of James A. L. Glenn, M. D., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Her funeral service will be held Friday, July 24, 2026 in St. Philip's Church at 11:00 am.
Lucy was born June 7, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia, daughter of the late Franklin Elmore Robson, Jr. and Ursule Hass Robson. The family moved to Charleston when Lucy was very young. Lucy graduated from Ashley Hall School, The University of South Carolina, and later earned a Master of Public Administration with interest in health care.
Following her marriage in 1968, she joined her husband at Ohio State University where she accepted the position as secretary to the chief of Hematology and Oncology, a position which included administrative management of research scholarship funds.
Medical training necessitated a move to Columbia, Missouri where Lucy accepted a position with the Dean of the University of Missouri Medical School monitoring student progress.
Two years in the Army at Fort Huachuca, Arizona followed.
Upon returning to Charleston in 1973, there was much opportunity for volunteer work including that which Lucy did through her membership in The Junior League of Charleston and other organizations. This work led to Lucy obtaining the Masters Degree in Public Administration with Health Care Focus. Following this she was involved in special projects at MUSC, which led to her becoming Director of Outpatient Clinics. She later became director of Human Resources for Roper Hospital during the time of joining together of Roper and other health care entities.
Outside of her professional life, Lucy was a devoted member of St Philip’s Church where she sang in the choir and served on the vestry. An avid golfer, she enjoyed both the game and the fellowship it brought. She was a loving mother whose greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for her deep love of Charleston and for the love, loyalty, and friendship which she shared with others.
In addition to her husband, Lucy is survived by her children, her son James A. L. Glenn, JR (Steffanie) of Houston, her daughter Ainsley Robson Glenn of Charleston, her grandchildren James A.L. Glenn, III and William Alexander Leland Glenn of Houston, close first cousins, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Gambrell Glenn Foster of Beaufort and Dorsey Glenn Condon of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her brother, Franklin Elmore Robson III and brother-in-law Clarence McCartha Glenn, jr.
Memorial donations can be made in Lucy's memory to St Philips Church Charleston or to The Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina or to a charity of one’s choice.
