Devoted father and husband, George Edward Namie, 63, died on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010.  He was born July 17, 1947 in Haynesville, La.


George will be remembered for his huge heart, ever-present compassion, and thoughtfulness; he just knew how to comfort others. He was a writer, collector, and historian.


He received a bachelor's degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., and a master of public administration degree from the College of Charleston.


He proudly served his country and retired as a lieutenant colonel USMC. Following the service, he worked as a special agent for the Defense Investigative Service. Recently, George spent a lot of time working for the Census bureau in Charleston. Also, George was devoted to making his neighborhood stronger, serving on the Northbridge Taskforce.


He is survived by his wife, Maria V. Namie; a daughter, Laura Marie Namie, and two sons, Daniel 'Danny' Patrick Namie, and Matthew Cordell Namie; stepson, Charles Pingree, and stepdaughter, Cassandra P. Foster and her husband, Jimmie, and their son Collin; brothers Mitchell Namie, Raymond Namie, Tom Namie, Matthew Lane, Timothy Lane, and sisters, Mary Bearden and Christine Riley; an aunt, Jean Fronius; and many nieces and nephews.


A memorial service will be held at Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1605 Harbor View Rd., Charleston, Thursday, October 7, 2010 at two o'clock. Funeral arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy., Charleston.
