Lt. Col. Michael DeCandio, Jr.

Lt. Col. Michael DeCandio, Jr. (U.S Army, Ret.), husband of Frances DeCandio, died May 16, 2012. He was 91 years old. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Michael DeCandio are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Church of The Nativity. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances, his sisters, Antoinette Ronessi and Rosalie Sangermano, and three children: Michael Joel DeCandio (Susan) of Jacksonville, FL, Michele DeCandio of Charleston, SC, and Pamela DeCandio of Alexandria, VA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Jennifer Beckman and children, Ashley Gadsden and Kendall Gadsden of Summerville, SC; Jeffrey Beckman (Marie) and sons, Jonah and Tristan of Miami, FL; Erin McConnell (Avram Blaker) and son, Alexander of New York, NY; Maura McConnell of Alexandria, VA; and Joel DeCandio of Jacksonville, FL.

Michael DeCandio, a native of Brooklyn, NY, served in the U.S Army during World War II and the Korean War and retired from the Army as an intelligence officer in 1970. Lt. Col. DeCandio subsequently worked at the Office of Economic Opportunity and the Community Services Administration. A resident of Alexandria, Virginia for 35 years, he and his wife spent the last twelve years in Jacksonville, FL and Charleston, SC close to their family.
