Entered into eternal rest on the evening of February 22, 2013, Lieutenant Colonel James Clinton Broadus, USA (Ret.). Residence, Kiawah Island, SC. The relatives and friends of Colonel Broadus are invited to attend his visitation on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401 between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Funeral services will conducted April 8, 2013 in Arlington, Virginia at the Fort Myer Chapel at 9:00 am. Interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
Colonel Broadus was born May 9, 1933 in Mobile Alabama, the son of Herbert James Broadus and Ruby Estelle Hartley Broadus. He attended high school in Mobile. Jim received his Bachelors Degree in Accounting at Spring Hill College in 1954 and his Masters Degree in Business Management at the University of Alabama. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society and his military education included attendance at the Army Command and General Staff College and the US Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.
He had a distinguished military career with the United States Army. As a field artilleryman, Jim served in the field artillery assignments in Germany and Korea. He commanded consecutively two combat field artillery battalions in Vietnam, the 6th Battalion, 11th Artillery and 3rd Battalion, 82cd Artillery. He was also assigned to MACV Headquarters in Saigon. Jim served on the staff of the Comptroller of the Army as a Budget Analyst, Executive Officer and later as Chief, Congressional Budget Liaison in the Office of the Director of Army Budget, The Pentagon.
After his retirement from the Army, Jim held various positions with defense contractors in the Washington DC area. He retired from Science Applications International Corporation in January 2002. Jim also worked part time on the Town of Kiawah Island staff and did volunteer work for the Town's Public Safety Committee and the Kiawah Island Natural Habitat Conservancy.
His military awards include, the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, all with Oak Leaf Clusters. Jim was awarded the Joint Service Commendation medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, as well as campaign decorations.
Retirement had provided time to travel, golf, extensive time with his children and grandchildren and preservation of a treasured family home on Kiawah Island.
Jim was a member of Army Navy Country Club and the Governor's Club at Kiawah Island Resort.
He was first married to Barbara Waterman and was predeceased by his second wife, Susan Morris Broadus and his son, Christopher M. Broadus.
He is survived by two sons, Major James Clinton Broadus, Jr. USA (Ret.) and his wife, Cindy, of Centreville, VA and Barry Michael Broadus and his wife, Pam, of Herndon, VA; daughter, Nancy Broadus Dunn of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren, Emily Anne Broadus, Allison Faye Broadus, Matthew Borland Broadus, Robert H. Dunn, III, Kelly Anne Dunn and Jackson James Broadus; one brother, Charles Broadus of Daphne, AL; two sisters, Marion Broadus of Chickasaw, AL and Yvonne Mansfield of Mobile, AL.
