Lowry Nadal Coe

Lowry Nadal Coe, Jr., 84, of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011.  The relatives and friends of Lowry Coe, Jr. are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, May 14, 2011at Lighthouse on the Creek at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Lowry was born on October 24, 1926 in Washington, DC, son of the late Lowry Nadal Coe, Sr. and Edith Gray Coe.  He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, DC and received a Bachelors degree from Duke University in North Carolina. Following his graduation from Duke, Lowry served as an officer in the Navy, working in film at Naval Photographic in Washington, DC.  He went on to found three independent film companies, Coe-Peacock, Inc., Charlie Papa Productions, and Coe Communications, which won numerous awards, including two Academy Award nominations.  His film work took him all over the world making documentaries and training films for The Grand Prix, the PGA, the ARAMCO pipeline, NASA, the AMA and General Motors, among many others, as well as travelogues for Paramount Pictures.  Following a stroke in 1993, Lowry retired from film-making and began painting.  He moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2000 where he continued to work as an artist.  He opened Lowcountry Sketches with his son-in-law in 2006.  He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Coe Reinhold and her husband, Bob, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Jennifer Coe Graham and her husband, Allyn, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one son, Lowry N. Coe, III of Darnestown, MD; two grandchildren, Joanna Marie Reinhold of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Evan Craig Reinhold of Charleston, SC; one sister, Sandra Coe of Washington, DC and one niece, Amanda Coe Upole of Oakland, MD.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Wharton Coe, and a brother, Donald Gray Coe. The family requests that memorials be made to the Porter Gaud Fine Arts Department or the City of Charleston Cultural Affairs Department.
