Louise Pace Phillips

Mrs. Louise Pace Phillips entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at the age of 91. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall where refreshments will be available. Interment will follow at the Florence Memorial Gardens at approximately 3:00 PM, 3320 S. Cashua Drive, Florence SC. Arrangements are being provided by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

Mrs. Phillips was born on February 26, 1933 in Brittons Neck, South Carolina to the late Mr. George Herbert Pace and Mrs. Bessie Capps Pace. Growing up on the family farm in Brittons Neck, Mrs. Phillips learned to enjoy gardening (a favorite pastime of hers), fishing, and playing high school basketball.

After graduating from high school, she moved to Florence, SC to work for Southern Bell where she met the love of her life – the late Mr. James L. (Roy) Phillips. After their marriage, she continued to work for Southern Bell until the birth of her son (Jim) and later the birth of her daughter (Stephanie).

After moving to Charleston, she remained a homemaker until her children were older, where she then went to work for Dr. David Stone as his office manager. During her time in Charleston, she was very active at Grace UMC as a trustee and took a leadership role in taking care of the landscaping and maintenance of the church’s grounds.

After retirement she continued helping many people with the landscaping and maintenance of their yards, while enjoying traveling with her husband and family.

In 2021 she moved to Oak Island, NC to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. Of course, she landscaped her new yard and enjoyed “island life” as long as she was able.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her sister, Leona Pace Calcutt, brothers James Monroe Pace and Lloyd George Pace, and foster brother Tommie Mathews Murrow. She is survived by her son, James L. (Jim) Phillips, Jr (Jennifer) of Oak Island, NC; her daughter Stephanie Louise Lambert (Rick) of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren Kathryn Louise Crocker (Jed); Daniel James Phillips; Rushton Baker (Troi-Lynn); Compton Baker (Molly) and eight great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, Charleston, SC, 29407.
