Louise "Mrs. Mac" Weekley McElmurray

Louise "Mrs. Mac" Weekley McElmurray, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late Richard "Mack" Parker McElmurray died Sunday, December 10, 2017. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Friday from 1:00 pm until time of the service.

Louise was born October 7, 1926 in Varnville, South Carolina, daughter of the late John Peter Weekley and Bernice Tuten Weekley. She was raised on a farm and helped her mother raise her three brothers and keep the family fed and healthy. After graduating from Wade Hampton High School, she received a scholarship to attend the University of South Carolina. She was the first in her family to attend college. Louise earned a Bachelor's Degree and began working as a registered nurse, a career that she held for 57 years. She moved from Columbia to Charleston to help open the VA Hospital where she worked alongside most of Charleston's great doctors leading the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. She was dedicated to caring for those in need. Her children have always been her pride and joy and she always enjoyed caring for her family. She also enjoyed playing cards, sewing and watching Clemson and Carolina football games. Louise loved going on cross country trips with her husband who was a trucker. She also enjoyed weekend trips in their motor home in the fall to go see the college football games.

She is survived by three daughters, Lynda McElmurray Hughes (G. Edward) of Atlanta, GA, Susan McElmurray Firetag (Gerald) of Charleston, SC and Jerri McElmurray Richard (Andrew G.) of Louisville, KY; brother, Donnie Weekley of Macon, GA; seven grandchildren, David Hughes of Atlanta, GA, Aaron Firetag of Charleston, SC, Laura Firetag N.D. of Seattle, WA, Heidi Firetag of Charleston, SC, Parker Richard of Charleston, SC, Rachel Richard of Louisville, KY and Noah Richard of Louisville, KY; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, James and Lance Weekley.

Due to her continued support in the medical field she became an organ donor to help in research.
