Louise Schaack Duncan, 102, of White Rock, South Carolina, widow of Lester Edmond Duncan, Sr., and the oldest member of St. Johannes Lutheran Church entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 30, 2013. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 5, 2013 in St. Johannes Lutheran Church, at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Louise was born November 6, 1911, in Port Royal, South Carolina, daughter of late Edward Frederick Schaack and Henrietta Louise Sophie Lambach Schaack. She was employed and retired as an Audit Clerk with Naval Resale Systems. Mrs. Duncan was a devoted wife and mother. She was active in her children's schools and an active member of St. Johannes, where she was a member of the Woman's Missionary Society, Lutheran Church Women, and Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. During this time she served as chairperson of the various groups, both in the congregation and at the conference level. While a member of St. Johannes, she served on the church council, was active on the social ministries committee on the congregational, conference and synodical levels. For many years she cared for the altar, washing and ironing altar cloths, polishing and preparing the vessels for communion. She continued caring for the altar at the New Life Chapel at the Heritage at Lowman.
She is survived by her two sons; Les (Marsha) Duncan of Chapin, SC, Charles (Joe) Duncan of Powder Springs, GA, a daughter; Helen (The Rev. Ronald) Smith of Newberry, SC; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Keith) Stephens, Allison (Geoff) LoCicero, R. Glenn (Marti) Smith, Mark D. (Melissa) Smith, Stephen (Bonnie) Smith, Eric (Frances) Smith, Melissa King, Natasha (Paul) McReynolds, fifteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a special nephew, The Rev. Edward (Ellen) Schaack, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Duncan was predeceased by a son, Paul, and a great grandchild.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers of the Adria wing of Heritage at Lowman Nursing Center for their compassionate care.
