Louis Morgan White, Sr., 89, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Shirley Cruser White, died Monday, January 14, 2013. Services will be held at a later date at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Norfolk, VA. There will be a Gathering of Friends on Friday, January 18, 2013 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 4:00 until 6:00 pm.
Lou was born on November 11, 1923 in Norfolk, Virginia, son of the late Dorsey Evans White, Sr. and the late Edith Morgan White. He graduated from Granby High School and Norfolk, VA in 1941 where he stared in football, baseball, and basketball. Upon graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines, serving during World War II as an Engineer until 1945. He owned Lou White's Service Station on Granby Street in Norfolk for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer and member of the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club in Virginia Beach. He was also active in the Lakewood Garden Club in Norfolk, VA. He was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Norfolk, VA, where he also served on the Vestry. After his wife passed away, Lou moved to The Palms of Mt. Pleasant in 2011 where he enjoyed his friends and lunch buddies.
He is survived by his son, Thornton Cruser White and his wife, Kellie, of Mount Pleasant, SC; grandson, Colin Cruser White of Mt. Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Evan Ann White of Mt. Pleasant, SC; step-granddaugther, Kelly Molohan Balfor of Norfolk, VA; daughter-in-law, Sandy White and her husband, David Watts of Norfolk, VA; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Louis M. White, Jr., brothers, Dorsey White, Jr. and Norris White and sisters, Lena Pitkin and Countess Glemming.
