The youngest of three boys born to the late Walter J. Kruger, Sr. and Mary Louise Burmester Kruger, Louis was born on August 16, 1937 in Charleston, SC. Growing up in the northwest section of Charleston, Louis attended Sacred Heart School. When Louis was ten years old, his mother passed away, and he went to live with a family friend in New York. Returning to Charleston as a teenager, he attended Bishop England High School, graduating in 1955. Upon graduation, Louis attended The Citadel from 1955 until 1958 and then went to Clemson where he graduated with a degree in Structural/Civil Engineering in 1959. Louis was employed by McDonald/Douglass Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis, MO, then the Georgia Highway Department. He returned home to work for the Southeastern Division of Naval Facilities Engineering Command until his retirement.

Louis loved being out on the water and enjoyed his boat, especially for offshore sport fishing. He looked forward to fishing trips in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, and Mexico as well as his weekend getaways to Goat Island with friends and family.

Additionally, Citadel football games were a favorite pastime of Louis' especially the tailgating and catching up with former classmates. Then it was home to watch Clemson football! Louis always enjoyed a reason to celebrate and have fun. On the other hand, Louis looked forward to his Friday morning volunteering as a member of the men's work crew at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. Louis was very handy and enjoyed making and sharing his woodworking talents, especially his chairs, all of which he happily shared with others for their enjoyment.

In addition to his wife, Nancy Salvo Kruger, Louis is survived by his three daughters born from his marriage to Carolyn R. Kruger; Beth Kruger, Cindy Smith (Thomas) both of Mt. Pleasant and Kim Richardson (Mike) of Sullivan's Island, his grandchildren Michael Richardson (Katie), Kelly Curry (John), all of Mt. Pleasant and Chipper Smith of California. Louis was blessed to have two great grandsons, Jack and Hampton Curry. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two older brothers, Walter J. Kruger and Lawrence Kruger.
