Lorraine Johnson Dominey, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Claude Rogers Dominey, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014, in First Baptist Church of Charleston, 48 Meeting St., at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Lorraine was born March 11, 1921 in Chesterfield, South Carolina, daughter of the late William Rubin Johnson and Frances Turner Johnson. She grew up in Florence, SC where she was Miss Florence 1941-1942 and 1st runner up for Miss South Carolina in 1941. She attended Charles of the Ritz Cosmetics School in New York City and was Jewelry and Accessory Buyer for McCown Smith Department Store in Florence, SC. Lorraine was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston, where she served on many committees. She authored a cookbook for the church in 1982 and established a ministerial scholarship fund for seminary students with the profits. Lorraine was a member of the Charleston Exchange Club Auxiliary, where she served as past president, a member of the Charleston Federation of Women's Clubs, where she was chosen to the Hall of Fame in 1992 and named Woman of the Year in 1999 for outstanding volunteer service and a member of the Woman's Club of Charleston, where she served as past president.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Pierce (Terry) of Charleston, SC and her son, Roger Dominey (Kathy) of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren: Thomas Townsend (Amanda), Lorraine Perazzola (Carl), John Dominey (Sarah), Catherine Dominey and Paul Dominey; her great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Hannah, Samantha, and Carl Dino Perazzola and Caylee and Darren Townsend; and her brother-in-law, Henry J. Dominey (Sylvia) of Orlando, FL.
She was predeceased by three sisters: Martha J. Calcutt, Ruth J. Hutchinson and Virginia J. Wallace; and a brother, Louis E. Johnson.
