Lori Beth Houser Buttermore, 60, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on April 1, 2024.
Lori was born on August 23, 1963 in Highland, Illinois, daughter of the late Dwane Russell Houser and the late Nancy Lou Struck Houser. She spent her formative years in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio where she was a state ranked and Junior Olympic gymnast. Looking to explore life outside the Midwest, she attended the University of Georgia where she met the love of her life, her husband, Thomas Nelson Buttermore Jr, in 1982. The two were married in 1985 in Atlanta, Georgia where Lori obtained her Master's Degree in Psychology. They welcomed their first son, Alex, in 1989 and their second son, Conner, in 1992. She spent her professional career working in elementary education. In 1995, she found, and became enamored by, the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. After raising their family, Tom and Lori made the island their full time home in 2013. They relocated to the Charleston area in 2021 for medical reasons and to be closer to family. Lori loved animals, the ocean and her three granddaughters. She was a strong, kind and gentle woman with a laugh that could be recognized from across any room. She made a positive and lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of meeting her and she will be very sorely missed.
She is survived by two sons, Alexander Thomas Buttermore (Amy) of Lambertville, NJ, Conner O'Dell Buttermore (Mackenzie) of St. John, VI; two sisters, Kelly Houser Fort (Dale) of Wadmalaw Island, SC, Melanie Houser Scofield (Todd) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; brother, Jeffrey Dwane Houser of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and three grandchildren, Cameron Buttermore, Juliet Buttermore, and Margot Buttermore.
Her memorial service will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 1:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
