Lola Ervin Hollen, 94, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Paul D. Hollen, Jr. died Friday, April 3, 2015. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the First United Methodist Church, 12 21st Avenue, Isle of Palms at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, April 6, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Lola was born September 26, 1920 in Gaines, West Virginia, daughter of the late Edward C. Ervin and the late Lucy Young Ervin. She retired as the bookkeeper for Hollen Distributing Company. A devoted wife and full time working mother of four, Lola also found time to volunteer for numerous charities, such as the March of Dimes, American Lung Association, and the American Cancer Society. She was active in the early development of the Isle of Palms Exchange Club, and has been active in the First United Methodist Church - Isle of Palms since 1957. She was an enthusiastic member of the Church's, "Crafty Ladies", where she was able to share her considerable talents for arts and crafts of all kinds.
An Isle of Palms resident since 1956, Lola loved to walk on the beach, watch the sunsets over the water, and enjoy her fellow island neighbors. She was a passionate cook, a tireless worker for political interests, and a consummate hostess, who loved to entertain. She strived to maintain close ties to family members, no matter how far flung they may be; everyone had an open invitation for a week at her beach house.
She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Hollen, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, SC; one son, Paul D. Hollen, III and his wife, Judy, of Mount Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Cheryl H. Haman of Spartanburg, SC and Cynthia L. Hollen, and her husband, Phil Avery, of Mount Pleasant, SC; twelve grandchildren, Melissa, Mark, Pete, Wendy, Willy, Jennifer, Catherine, Lindsey, Lisa, Brian, Stefanie and Trey and five great grandchildren, Olivia, Ian, Vanyla, Ashley and Will. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Daniel Hollen.
