Lola Ruth Allen

Ruth Poston Gaskins Allen, 98, wife of Robert E. Allen, entered into eternal rest on the evening of June 25, 2012.
Ruth was born on August 10, 1913, in Hyman, SC, a daughter of the late H. McCray and Gussie T. Poston. She graduated from Hannah High School, and then received training in the nursing field. Ruth married Gervase Gaskins and moved to Charleston, SC, where she worked for several local doctors, many years with Dr. William Mood. She was a member of the Northbridge Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in the yard, planting a vegetable garden, sewing and made many of her own clothes.
Surviving is Robert Allen, her husband of 25 years, and three of her children: Dr. Ronald Gaskins (Beverly) of Bruceton Mills, WV; Rodney Gaskins (Esther) of Charleston, SC; Dana Gaskins (Jane) of Charleston, SC; a step-son, Robert Allen (Linda) of Franklin, GA; a step-daughter Vicki Callahan (John ) of Huntington Beach, CA; a sister Alberta Ridgell of Florence, SC; and 2 brothers, Maxey Poston (Mary) of Florence, SC , and Phillip Poston (Linda) of Lake City, SC; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Gervase G. Gaskins, her daughter Priscilla Hogan, a sister Vivian Hodges, and 2 brothers, James Poston and Hasford Poston.
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Allen are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter Friday, June 29, 2012 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Hospice Center of Charleston or Northbridge Baptist Church.
