Lloyd Charles Merritt

Lloyd Charles Merritt, Jr., 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Byrd Merritt entered into eternal rest Wednesday, February 14, 2018. His private funeral service will be held graveside in Magnolia Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Lloyd was born June 16, 1940 in Sumter, South Carolina, son of the late Lloyd Charles Merritt, D.V.M. and Jennie Smith Merritt. He was a graduate of Wofford College and a member of SAE Fraternity. Lloyd was the Owner/CEO of Merritt Veterinary Supplies, Inc. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Sumter, Lions Club of Sumter, the Daniel Island Country Club, Highlands Falls Country Club and served on the board of the Sumter YMCA. Lloyd was a member of St. Philip's Church of Charleston and a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Sumter.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara of Charleston, SC; daughters: Julie M. Mims (Bobby) of Columbia, SC, Kathy M. Richardson (Don) of Columbia, SC and Jennie M. Richardson (Selby) of Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren: William, Merritt, Edward, Charlie, Mary Caroline, Margaret and Elizabeth; and mother-in-law, Margie Lawrence of Sumter, SC.
Lloyd was predeceased by his half-sister, Polly Banta.
