Linda Curran Miller Ziegler, 65, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Charleston Hospice Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 in the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, North West, Greenville, SC, at 10:30 am. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until time of service. A memorial service in Charleston will be planned at a later date. Local arrangements by J. Linda was born January 27, 1948 in Greenville, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late C.B. and Hazel Miller. A graduate of Parker High School, Linda earned an associate degree in Arts from North Greenville College, a bachelors degree in English and a masters degree in Education from Clemson, and a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina. Known as Dr. Z, Linda served for 33 years in several capacities at Trident Technical College including English Instructor, Department Head, Associate Dean, and Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Upon her retirement in 2005, she had worked as the Vice President for Academic Affairs for 14 years. Linda was instrumental in developing Trident's academic competition, QUEST, and in 1984, served as a Low Country coordinator for Governor Dick Riley's campaign to pass the "penny for Education" sales tax legislation to spend $240 million to improve the state's public schools. A passionate educator and student advocate, she was twice named Trident's Outstanding Technical Administrator of the Year and was a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Women in Community and Junior Colleges and the American Association for Higher Education.
Linda was of the Baptist faith and leaves behind a tremendous legacy of scholarship, generosity, graciousness and kindness. She was an avid reader and Scrabble player; an engaging storyteller; an enthusiastic traveler; and a trusted mentor, confidant and friend.
Linda is survived by her sister, Kathy Smith; her niece, Jan (Benjamin) Bishop; grand-nephew, Conway Bishop; sister-in-law, Dianne Miller; and nephew, Jonathan Miller. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Cecil Bertman Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Linda Ziegler Scholarship Fund at Trident Technical College.
