Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.
Linda Sue was born in Summerville, SC on January 24, 1946 as the daughter of the late Wilfred C. Knight and the late Susie M. Knight. She was a 1964 graduate of Summerville High School and graduated from Columbia College in 1967 with a degree in Music Education.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, George W. Horres, Jr., and her children Kevin (Terry) Horres, Teri (Brent) Horres Stone, and Greg (Jennifer) Horres. She was an amazing wife and mother, but her greatest joy was as "Nana" to her 8 grandchildren: Allison and Austin Horres; Leah, Ansley, and Meredith Stone; Mary Ruth, Susie, and Daniel Horres. She is also survived by her loving sister, Yvonne (George) Knight Garmendia and her family. Many extended family members and friends who were like family enriched her time on earth.
Music, family and friends were passions in Linda Sue's life and she was a dedicated organist and choir director at Johns Island Presbyterian Church for over 20 years. Prior to that, she served as the organist at Ashley River Baptist Church for 10 years. Many weekends were spent serving others as a wedding organist or preparing for special choir performances at church. She had an appreciation for the arts that impacted her sports-minded family.
Linda Sue was also a beloved music teacher for the Charleston County School District for 28 years. She directed the annual 5th grade play and accompanied many performances through the years. Students would approach her in public and she was always glad to make connections with them. She had a gift at making them feel like the most important student she'd taught. Linda Sue dedicated her life to serving others. She never complained, always had a sweet smile on her face and was an incredibly talented musician. No words can adequately describe the pain of losing her on earth and the joy her family feels for her as she is now completely healed.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Leola Cheeseborough, as well as the amazing group of nurses and staff at The Village at Summerville and Roper Hospice. Flowers will be accepted and memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Walk to End Alzheimer's - act.alz.org/goto/gwhorres
