Linda Golding Cohen, of Charleston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the age of 82.
Linda is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, David Cohen. Linda leaves behind a beautiful and enduring legacy through her devoted children: Jeffrey Cohen (Jody) of Charleston, Randy Cohen (Robyn) of Chicago, and Michael A. Cohen of San Francisco; and her beloved grandchildren: Shira L. Cohen (Josh Roberts) of San Francisco, Ethan R. Cohen of New York City, Micah Cohen of Jerusalem, Judah Cohen of Chicago, and Ezra Cohen of Chicago. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra G. Peskin (Howard) of Charleston.
She was predeceased by her mother, Celia F. Cohen; her father, George Golding, her stepfather, Sol Cohen; and her sister, Judith G. Zedd of Norfolk.
A proud and deeply devoted member of the Charleston Jewish community, Linda often referred to herself as a “professional volunteer,” dedicating countless hours and boundless energy to both Jewish and secular causes throughout the Charleston area. Her leadership, generosity, and deep love of Jewish education touched generations and helped strengthen Jewish life throughout the community.
Linda served as Chair of the Board of Addlestone Hebrew Academy and as Sisterhood President of Synagogue Emanu-El. She was also an active member of Hadassah, ORT, National Council of Jewish Women, and the Charleston Jewish Federation, where she proudly held the distinction of Lion of Judah. Linda was instrumental in bringing PJ Library to Charleston, helping inspire a love of Jewish learning and identity for countless local families.
Beyond the Jewish community, Linda was active with the American Cancer. Society through “Step in Time” and played a key role in bringing Kids Fair to the Charleston community.
Her kindness, warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to family, community, and Jewish education will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. May her memory be for a blessing.
Funeral services will be held at Synagogue Emanu-El, 5 Windsor Drive, at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026, with interment to follow at Synagogue Emanu-El Cemetery in Maryville.
The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Addlestone Hebrew Academy, 1639 Wallenberg Boulevard, Charleston, SC, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 884 Allerton Blvd., Suite 115, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
