Linda Kirkum Bowden, of Charleston, SC, set sail for the next phase of life on 4/30/23 after a long and painful illness. Linda was born in Wilmington, NC on September 4, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Elwood and the late Margaret W. Kirkum.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert H. Bowden, Jr. (Bob), son Robert H. Bowden, III (Rob), grandchildren Benjamin L. Bowden, and Bailey Wells Bowden, and daughter in law, Allison Sill Bowden.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and taught kindergarten for 30 years. She was past president of the Charleston Yacht Club Auxiliary, secretary of the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, and member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, the French Huguenot Church of Charleston, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Charleston Horticultural Society, and Riverland Terrace Garden Club. Linda will be remembered for her beauty, radiant personality, and bravery during her illness. She will also be remembered for the homemade cookies she provided to sailing regatta race committees in Charleston.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, in the French Huguenot Church, 136 Church Street, at 3:00 pm.
The family sincerely appreciates Roper Hospice for their kindness and support during the final days of Linda’s illness. Memorials can be made to the Lake Norman Yacht Club Junior Program, P.O. Box 4600, Mooresville, NC 28117-4600.
