Linda Baumberger Behling, born January 18, 1951, in Superior, Wisconsin, died peacefully on October 11, 2026, in Charleston, South Carolina, after a period of illness with leukemia. She was grateful for the outpouring of support and help in her final weeks.

Linda is survived by sons Edward "Ted" (Kathryn) and Thomas “Tom” (Elyse) Behling, her three grandchildren, sister Barbara Crane and brother Bruce (Ann) Baumberger, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brother Roger Baumberger, his wife Anne-Marie, Bruce's first wife Nancy, and parents Robert E and Martha K Baumberger of Hilton Head Island.

As a child, Linda enjoyed formative experiences living overseas thanks to her father's work under the US State Department, first in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and then in Mashhad, Iran, in the 1950s. She was a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, with a BA in Government.

Linda raised her two sons as a single parent starting when Ted was 3 and Tom was 10 days old. Owing to many long work hours, she was able to provide a comfortable and supportive home. She took pride in the capable, loving, and intelligent men they both grew up to become. Spending time daily with her three wonderful grandchildren, with frequent laughter and lots of hugs, was her biggest source of joy during her final weeks.

Professionally, Linda had a keen eye for detail and took great pride in doing high-quality work. After years working in Chicago as a legal secretary, she started her own home secretarial business after the birth of her first son. Later, while living on Hilton Head Island, she worked for 18 years in the office of a major convention hotel. As a wedding ceremony officiant, she married over 600 couples. She took great joy in providing help with props, costumes and communications for 28 major theater productions at Hilton Head High School. After moving to Summerville to be closer to family, her lifelong love for sewing turned into a successful alterations business, Sewing by Linda, which she ran for over 12 years. For the past six years, Linda was honored to volunteer for the Dorchester County Democratic Party.

A funeral will be held in Charleston at Grace Church Cathedral (98 Wentworth St) on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00am. Linda's remains will be interred in the columbarium at First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head Island. In lieu of flowers, Linda had suggested a donation to Family Hospice (Charleston) or the Dorchester County Democratic Party.
