Lillian Sterling Stokes Ward of Charleston, SC, widow of Cheves Harllee Ward, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in Knoxville, Tennessee at age 90.

Born in Florence, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Harry James Stokes and the late Kathryn Graddick Stokes.

She was a member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church in Charleston where she served as treasurer and sang in the Joy Choir. One of her greatest joys was being an active participant in the Concord Adult Day Enrichment Service, CADES at Concord United Methodist Church in Knoxville.

A loving Mother and devoted Grandmother, she is survived by a daughter, Debra Ward Fields and son-in-law Ken Fields, and two grandchildren, Cheves Ryan Fields and Lauren Elizabeth Fields, all of Knoxville; nieces Patsy Matthews and Sterling Kelley, both of Savannah, Georgia, and Gail Milling of Darlington, South Carolina; and nieces-by-marriage Kathryn Ward Davis of North Carolina and Hilary Ward Sill of Spartanburg, South Carolina. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorrene Stokes and Kathryn Parnell; three brothers, G. H. Stokes, Graddick Stokes and Arthur Lee Stokes.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel.
