Lillian Rachel Shelton Snyder, 85, passed away peacefully at her home away from home at Harmony at West Ashley in Charleston, SC. Born on December 17, 1939, in Hawkinsville, Georgia, Lil lived a life full of love, adventure, hard work and enduring friendships.
Lil was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Albert “Bud” Snyder; her parents, Ivan and Lois Shelton; her sisters, Mildred Darsey, Madge Coley and Lucille Youngblood and her brother Archie Shelton.
She is survived by her sons, Lance (Tara) Snyder and Bert (Katherine) Snyder; her step-sons Bruce (Nan Gelhard) Snyder, Barry Snyder, and Brett (Sue) Snyder; her grandchildren John Albert Snyder, Christina (Bret) Columbo, Hudson (Megan) Snyder, Carly (Dalton) Cornforth, Braxton Snyder, Brent Snyder, and Asa Snyder; and her great-grandchild Ronan Columbo. Lil is also survived by her sister Edith Castleberry, her brother Edwin Shelton and her many nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends.
After graduating from Hawkinsville High School, Lil set off for Atlanta, where she worked as a telephone operator and secretary. It was in Atlanta where she met and married the love of her life, Bud. Together, they built a beautiful life - living in Memphis for ten years before settling in South Carolina. In 1976, Lil and Bud purchased a small termite and pest control company Palmetto Exterminators in Walterboro, SC. With hard work and dedication, the business grew and along the way, they built lifelong friendships within the pest control industry. Known affectionately as “Queen Bee” by employees, customers and friends, Lil was admired for her grace and the genuine care she showed to everyone she worked with.
After retiring in 1999, Lil enjoyed spending more time at her dream home on Lake Marion in Eutawville, SC, bird watching, gardening, traveling the world, and making memories with family and friends.
Lil’s love of sports extended beyond being just a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves - she enjoyed shooting baskets with her children and even took on the role of catcher when playing baseball with her sons. She especially loved watching her children and grandchildren play competitive sports. Lil was a wonderful cook, known for preparing delicious meals that brought loved ones together around the table.
Lil will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit and the warmth she shared with everyone she met. Lil’s family is grateful for the care and attention she received from the caregivers at Harmony at West Ashley and Agape Hospice.
