Lillian Griffith Murphy

Lillian Griffith Murphy, 94, widow of Matthew E. Murphy, Jr. entered into eternal rest Monday, June 20, 2022. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 24, 2022 in Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive at 10:30 am, followed by Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Lillian was born September 12, 1927 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Ira Ashley Griffith and Lillian Schragg Griffith.  She was raised in Charleston among a close-knit circle of very dear friends.  She was a graduate of Bishop England High School and a life-long member of Christ Our King Catholic Church, where she served on the Lazarus Committee and Altar Guild.   She was employed in administrative roles at both C & S Bank and the Charleston Museum. 
 
In addition to her husband, Lillian was preceded in death by her son, Matthew E. Murphy, III, her sister, Elizabeth Griffith Scofield, and her brother, Ira Ashley Griffith, Jr.

Among her survivors are her sister, Irene McGinley of O'Fallon, IL; many nieces and nephews, including Edward McGinley, Donald Scofield, Nancy Klicka, Sally Scofield Harmon, and Greg Duncan; and her devoted friends Kathie Chase and Marie Donnelly.
