Lillian Durham Cogan Dancy, 106, died June 27, 2010 at Sandpiper Nursing Home. Mrs. Dancy was born in 1903 at Mont Clare, Pennsylvania, a daughter of J. Howard Durham and Sara Kaley Durham. She was a graduate of West Chester State Normal School and taught music in the public schools. In 1928, she was married to Matthew Stanley Cogan. She was widowed in 1965 and moved to Charleston in 1971. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and formerly an active member of the Ashley River Baptist Church. She played the piano for many years for the music classes at Neely's Early Childhood Education Center. In 1972, she married the late J. Lloyd Dancy. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister and is survived by two daughters, Lynda Cogan Heffley and her husband, Robert, of Charleston and Sarabeth Cogan Holmberg of Stuart, Florida and two grandchildren, Deborah Heffley Brooks of Charleston, and Scott Heffley of Hardeeville. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Sandpiper for the loving, excellent care she received. A graveside service will be held at Beulah Cemetery in New Britain, Pennsylvania.
