Lila Bates Elvington

Lila Mai Bates Elvington, wife of D. Dupree Elvington, Jr., passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Her Graveside Service will be held Monday, September 30, 2024 at the Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive, North Charleston at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.

Lila was born in Charleston, SC, on December 1, 1943, and lived in North Charleston, SC all of her life. Lila was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her life was dedicated to her family and she adored her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, D. Dupree Elvington, Jr.; son, Develen Dupree Elvington III, daughter-in-law, Sarah Michele Ebert Elvington and their children, J. D. Elvington and Josephine Mai Elvington all of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Rhonda Elvington Crawford, son-in-law, Steven Christopher Crawford and their children, Luke William Crawford and Lydia Elizabeth Crawford of Hanahan, SC and brother, James Raymond Bates, Jr. of Elizabethtown, KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Cooper River Baptist Church 1059 Crawford St, North Charleston, SC 29405 or Parkinson's Foundation, 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami, FL 33126.
