Lewis Steven Nathanson

Lewis Steven Nathanson, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, husband of Carol LaMarche Nathanson, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011. The relatives and friends of Lewis Nathanson are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 1:00 pm in Stella Maris Catholic Church. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL on Sunday, November 6, 2011, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Nathanson was born February 19, 1935 in Utica, NY and raised in Charlotte, NC. He was the son of the late Harry L. Nathanson and Coral Dehospherd Nathanson. He graduated from Central High School in Charlotte, NC and was a 1956 graduate of Georgia Tech, where he was a proud life-long member of Kappa Sigma International Fraternity (A.E.K.D.B.). He was a veteran of the US Navy and a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church. He worked with his father at Carolina Door and was President and owner of Overhead Door Company of the Piedmont, Inc., in Charlotte, NC for almost 30 years. He contributed to several organizations including the Metal Building Dealers Association, The Executive Association, and The Home Builders Association. He earned many honors and awards with Overhead Door Corporation. He was a member of the Charlotte Lion's Club and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

In 1996, he relocated to Mt. Pleasant, SC with his wife and worked at Overhead Door Company of Charleston and the Grand Strand and American Eagle Insurance Company for over a decade. He was an extremely dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, employee, and friend. He was an avid piano and tennis player and a sports enthusiast.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Carol LaMarche Nathanson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his three children, Mary Nathanson Kilo, M.D. and her husband, Charles Kilo, M.D. of Portland, OR, Steven H. Nathanson, M.D. and his wife, Michelle of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Ann-Marie Nathanson Morris of Matthews, NC; his beloved grandchildren, Grant, Bailey, and Olivia Morris, Benjamin and Anna Kilo, and Victoria, Charlotte, Amelia, and Phillip Nathanson; his sister, Marilyn N. Pierpont and her husband, the late Gordon Pierpont of Charlotte, NC; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis J. and Dot LaMarche, Jr. of Farragut, TN, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and L. Thomas Holst, Jr., PhD. of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emma and Louis J. LaMarche and his nephew, Stephen S. Pierpont.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC 29482 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
