Levy Gene Colson

March 14, 1941 — April 10, 2016

On the morning of April 10, 2016, the 54th anniversary of his marriage to Joanne Hartley, Levy Gene Colson passed away. Joanne, of course, was at his side caring for him as she had every day of their life together. His funeral service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2016 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2100 Bacons Bridge Road, Summerville, SC at 10:00 am; and will be immediately followed by Interment at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11,000 Dorchester Road in Summerville, SC. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.

Levy Gene Colson was born March 14, 1941 in Walterboro, SC, to the late Levy and Ida Lee Colson. He was the first of two children. He grew up in Walterboro and graduated from Walterboro High School where he was an accomplished football player and athlete. Gene began his career with Allstate Insurance Company as an adjuster and through hard work became a Senior Property Adjuster. He traveled all over the country to areas affected by natural disasters to assist Allstate's CAT Team as well as local losses. After 30 years, he retired and enjoyed as many rounds of golf as he possibly could.

Gene served both his family and his church with all his heart. He also was very active in his community by coaching many youth sports teams for many years. He served his church in many different callings such as Primary Teacher, Young Men's Presidency, Branch President, Bishop and High Counselor. He loved to serve and work with the youth.

He will be remembered for his kindness, love and big bear hugs. He will be missed dearly by all those who loved him; but we find comfort and peace knowing that we will see him again.

Survivors include his wife and sweetheart, Joanne; two sons, Bobby and his wife Stephanie and their children, Samuel, Abigail, Calvin and Eliza from Saratoga Springs, UT and Stefan and his wife Erin and their children Atticus and Holland from North Charleston; two daughters, Frances Conti and her husband Landon and Frances's children Chelsea, Morgan and Hartley from North Charleston and Lexington and Keerstin Lax and her children Kane and Kambria of Hanahan; his sister Joyce Siegler; several nieces and nephews.
