Lester Rembert "Bert" Motley, 67, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Suzanne Davis Motley entered peacefully into eternal rest with family by his side on Friday, August 12, 2022. His memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2022 in the St. Mark United Methodist Church, 413 Geddes Ave. at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel.
Bert was born on June 20th, 1955 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William DeVore Motley Sr. and Doris Stokes Motley. He was a good Christian man whose life impacted many in a positive way. First and foremost, he loved his family and was a devoted husband and father to three sons whom he was very proud of. Bert graduated from College of Charleston and he spent over 40 years fulfilled in his career with Piggly Wiggly before making a switch to civil service as a manager at the Navy Exchange. Throughout his life, he was a hardworking man. When Bert was not working, he could be found in the backyard. He just loved being outside and took much pride in maintaining his beautiful yard. Bert was a valued member of St. Mark United Methodist and will be remembered by the many who thought highly of him there.
Bert is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne Davis Motley of Charleston, SC; mother, Doris Stokes Motley of Mt. Pleasant, SC, three sons, Michael Rembert Motley (Megan) of Seattle, WA, Mark Davis Motley (Danielle) of Charleston, SC, Bradley Marshall Motley (Cassandra) of Moncks Corner, SC; seven grandchildren, Eli, Jack, Noelle, Taylor, Nell, Alina and Juliet; brother, William D. Motley, Jr. (Mary) of Charleston; two sisters, Jeanny M. Meetz (Jack) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Dana Motley of Seabrook, SC. He was preceded in death by his father, William DeVore Motley Sr.
