LeRoy Alexander Mazyck, Jr., 85, of Goose Creek, SC, widower of Daisy Adeline McMillan Mazyck, died Sunday, December 19, 2010, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Born June 24, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of LeRoy Alexander Mazyck, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Cordray Mazyck. Mr. Mazyck joined the Merchant Marine during WWII; he was an electrician by trade. He and his father were electrical contractors and also operated a shrimp trawler business. He retired from Westvaco, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, IBEW Local #776. Mr. Mazyck was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Mazyck is survived by his son, LeRoy A. Mazyck, III of Goose Creek, SC; daughters: Adeline M. L. Tucker and her husband Kenny of Ridgeville, SC, Sarah M. Wade and her husband John of Summerville, SC and Anna M. Weissinger of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren: Christopher Bryan Smith, Charlotte Reikofski, Justin Lovvorn, Evan Tucker, Melissa Rhea, Johnathan Wade, Alex Weissinger, Amanda Weissinger, Hanna Mazyck and Hailey Mazyck; great-grandchildren: Lily Smith, Lucy Smith and Kailey Rhea. He was preceded in death by his wife; and daughter, Carol M. Smith.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held in St. John Catholic Church, Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell, with military honors, to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Tuesday, December 21, 2010 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Saint John Catholic Church, 3921 St. Johns Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.
Mr. Mazyck's family wishes to thank his physician Dr. Greer Linton, the nurses at Roper Hospital on sixth floor Pettit and his staff at Hospice of Charleston Center during his stay. His home health care aides, Charlene Brown, CNA and Emma Appleton, RN. Special thanks to Karen Bagget, RN with Hospice Care of America for her compassion and devotion to his care and her guidance and support to his family over the last year.
