LeRoy "Buddy" Mattox, Jr., 82, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Mary Evelyn Jolly Mattox, died Friday, June 3, 2016. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Doorway Baptist Church, 7825 Dorchester Road, North Charleston at 1:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Avenue. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road.
LeRoy was born September 6, 1933 in Winnsboro, SC, son of the late LeRoy Mattox Sr., and the late Bertha Taylor Mattox. He was an Air Force veteran and retired from the Post and Courier. He was a member of Dorchester-Waylyn Baptist Church, now known as Doorway Baptist Church. LeRoy was a Mason and member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debbie Mattox Jordan (Freddie), of Meggett, SC; son, Kenneth W. Mattox (Lisa), of Goose Creek, SC; sister, Lona Janice Smith of North Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Carol Mattox of North Charleston, SC; brother-in-law, Bill Wentzel of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren: Kristen Fouts (Casey), Kyle Jordan (Kelsey), Tasha Mattox, K.J. Mattox, Tiffany Benton (Chris) and Mason Mattox; and three great-grandchildren: Payton Marie Fouts, Hadley Jordan, and Gracelynn Benton.
He was preceded in death by five siblings: Calvin Gene Mattox, Martha Frances Vining, Jack Franklin Mattox, Barbara Nell Snyder, and Joan LaBlanch Wentzel.
