Leonard C. "Curly" Greenebaum

Leonard C. "Curly" Greenebaum, 80, of Charleston, SC, husband of Bobbie Rosendorf Greenebaum, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, September 11, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014, in Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Temple (Hasell St). Interment, Beth Elohim Cemetery (Huguenin Ave). The family will receive friends at the residence from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Leonard was born February 6, 1934 in Lang Gons, West Germany and was the son of Norbert and Hennie Greenebaum. He became a United States citizen in 1944. He was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the Washington and Lee School of Law. Leonard practiced law in Washington, D.C. from the early 1960s to 2001. He was a partner at the law firm of Sachs & Jacobs, and managing partner of the successor firm Sachs, Greenebaum & Tayler. He later became a partner at Baker & Hostetler, serving as DC Litigation Coordinator and firm-wide Litigation Group Chair. He was a 2nd Lt USAR, served in active duty in Fort Sill, OK and served in the US Army Reserves. He was a member of Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Reform Congregation. Leonard was a member of the Mentors Association of the Citadel and was a supporter of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. He served as the Director of the Cold War Submarine Memorial Foundation which established a monument at Patriots Point, SC, honoring submariners who served in Charleston Harbor during the cold war period. He served on the Citizens Advisory Board of the Medical University of South Carolina Hollings Cancer Center, and the Board of Visitors of Roper St. Francis Healthcare. He was a member of the Country Club of Charleston and the Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville, NC.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie R. Greenebaum, of Charleston, SC; daughters Beth L. Sirota (Jeff) of Kingston, PA and Cathy G. Borten (Matt) of Gaithersburg, MD; son, Steven I Greenebaum (Christine) of New Orleans, LA; six grandchildren, Alix, Eli, Holden, Yardley, Megan, and Amanda; sister, Jean H. Coplan (Howard) of Richmond, VA; brother-in-law and his wife, Martin and Toby Rosendorf of Silver Spring, MD; and four nieces.

He was predeceased by his precious dog, Rosie.
