Lenore "Lee" Mary Tanner Swayne, 83, wife of the late Wallace "Wally" B. Swayne, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 after a brief illness. At the time of her death, she resided at Somerby in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 10:00 am. Interment will be private.Born August 30, 1931 in Battle Creek, Michigan, Lee was the daughter of British immigrants, Wilfrid George Tanner and Nellie Elizabeth Russen Tanner of Oxford, England. She attended public schools in Battle Creek and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1949. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Education. While attending Western Michigan University, Lee met and married Wallace "Wally" B. Swayne, and they were married nearly 50 years until Wally's death in 2003. Lee taught first and second grade students at the Jesse Boyd Elementary School in Spartanburg, SC for 25 years. After her retirement, she and Wally lived in Mount Dora, FL for a number of years and enjoyed traveling and their many hobbies including square dancing, golf, and clogging. Lee also enjoyed knitting and cross stitching gifts for friends and family.Lee is survived by her children, Thomas Swayne and his wife, Janet of Isle of Palms, SC, Richard Swayne of Charlotte, NC, and Gregory Swayne and his wife, Lisa of Alpharetta, GA; her grandchildren, Julie Gibson and her husband David, Michael Tanner, Tanner Robert, Blake, Nora Katherine, Jennifer, and Stephanie; her great-grandchildren, Zachary and Samantha; her siblings Wilfrid James Tanner of Cathedral City, CA and Kay Eileen Tanner Leisenring and her husband, James of Ridgefield, CT; her sister-in-law, Donna Kikstadt Tanner of St. George, UT. She also was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.The family wishes to thank the staff at Somerby of Mt.
